Business Recycling Awards Group
Showcase your business and be recognized for your company's sustainable practices. The Business Recycling Awards Group (BRAG) recognizes those businesses throughout Clackamas County doing an outstanding job of recycling, preventing waste, purchasing recycled-content products, and promoting sustainability.
Qualifying BRAG members meet the following criteria:
- Recycle all prevalent materials regularly;
- Prevent waste with at least three (3) ongoing activities;
- Consistently buy recycled-content copier/printer paper and other products;
- Participate in at least one activity promoting sustainability;
- Renew membership every three (3) years.
BRAG members benefit by:
- Public recognition through newspaper ads, articles, web sites and other media;
- A membership certificate and window decal for display at your business;
- A position as a role model for other businesses in your community; and
- Rights to the BRAG logo for use in your own promotional or advertising materials.

BRAG Members Tips
Canby Area Chamber of Commerce mails membership packets using the folder as the envelope. Taping the folder together and adding an address label saves them $280 per year on envelopes and postage.
Willamette Falls Immediate Care eliminated unused Page 3 & Page 4 of a four-part form. Savings: 24,000 sheets of paper per year.
Oswego Design & Remodeling encourages clients to consider building materials made with recycled content and/or from renewable resources.
Enoch Manufacturing Co has designed their manufacturing processes so that oil is re-used many times before it is recycled.
Bomber Complex, Restaurant & Catering uses reusable dishware, cloth napkins, and tablecloths for catering jobs.
Oregon Independent Federal Credit Union is in the process of changing from printed reports to reports on computer disks. Changing just one large report saves them 500 sheets of paper per month. Savings: $85/yr for this report.
Willamette Mortgage Services, Inc. provides reusuable travel mugs to all their customers and employees. They use the Internet for rate and title information, which eliminates the use of many fax copies for information that can change daily.
Rag Man, Inc. salvages worn towels and coveralls from commercial laundries to make rags for car detailing and other uses.
Prestigious Homes & Remodeling, Inc. a remodeling contractor orders supplies without packaging if possible. Doors, windows and decking removed from remodeling jobs are reused if in good condition.
Commercial Vehicle Systems, Inc. requested a main supplier to use returnable plastic bins when shipping parts, and they return cardboard boxes to suppliers for refilling.
Columbia Rubber Mills requests suppliers to take back drums and pallets for reuse.
Desktop Solutions and OSALT, two businesses that share the same office, make it a practice to consider all purchases carefully and don't buy anything that they don't need.
Evergreen Fab & Machine Inc. reuses their cardboard boxes to ship out parts they make for Christmas tree harvesting equipment.
Advanced Supplements orders in large size containers and buys foods in bulk so that customers can bring their own containers to fill.
Clackamas Federal Credit Union switched some printed reports to ones accessible on computer, reducing copying and paper usage.
Northwest Photo & Digital uses digital imaging for some reprints and enlargements, saving chemicals and photography paper. Replacing a three-part NCR sales form with a simple cash register receipt and computer records saves the store about 44,000 sheets of paper and $600 per year, not to mention storage and filing space.
OECO Corporation used to duplicate and distribute manual updates to each department. They now save about $2100 per year by updating them on computer and keeping only one master copy.
Kaiser Permanente, Sunnyside replaced mowing equipment with mulching mowers, eliminating disposal of grass clippings and reducing the use of fertilizer by one third.
Clackamas County Board of Commissioners and County Counsel share magazine and newspaper subscriptions and use E-mail to communicate with each other and other county departments.
Clackamas County Records Management Dept. returns spools and plastic boxes to the photo lab for reuse. When files are pulled for destruction, binders are returned to departments to be reused.
Clackamas County Dept. of Transportation and Development lengthened the time between oil and filter changes in County vehicles, saving purchasing and disposal costs, while having no adverse effect on the life of the vehicles. Chemical samples are not accepted from salespersons unless staff has researched the material, and it is needed for department operations.
Blue Sky Filters, Inc. cleans commercial filter bags for reuse, saving customers the cost of new filters.
