Field Trips
Find out where your garbage goes
On a field trip to your local transfer station. Watch where the garbage trucks bring your garbage before it is sent to the landfill. Watch the arrival of garbage trucks, see the materials recovery and sorting process, and the 20 foot deep pit of garbage.

Tour a Materials Recovery Facility
Ever wonder what happens to that aluminum can or plastic bottle you recycled? Now's the time to find out! Take a tour of your local Materials Recovery Facility and watch how both people and machines sort all of our recyclables.
Learn about how newspaper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tin cans, etc. are all separated and then prepared for markets where they are made into new commodities.
