N. Clackamas P&R District (NCPRD) engAGE in Community
MAPPS Introduction and Training

Time: 1:30pm – 3:30 pm
Location: Milwaukie Center, 5440 SE Kellogg Creek Drive, Milwaukie, OR 97222
Room: Arrowwood

Please join us! We are excited about being selected for this project - to help Clackamas County in establishing NCPRD (Oak Grove, Happy valley, and Milwaukie regions) as an age-friendly community that supports an individual’s ability to ‘age in place,’ that is to age actively and successfully in their home or community of choice. engAGE in Community is using an exciting OSU Extension community engagement program, Community Assets MAPPS (Mapping Attributes-Participatory Photographic Surveys.

What to expect: Learn about the engAGE initiative, facilitated Q&A, introduction to the MAPPS activity - and have fun! Refreshments provided.

  MAPPS allows communities to:
- Assess the social and physical environmental contributions to the age-friendliness
-
Understand diverse perceptions of their community environments for aging populations
- Identify community supports for and barriers to aging in place
- Identify social and service factors that impact age-friendliness of a community
- Iformation gathered can be utilized to inform stakeholders and policy makers
- Make an informed call for action!

Communities, i.e NCPRD, that complete the engAGE MAPPS process will have an opportunity to apply for grant funding provided by engAGE in Community. Funds will help the engAGE mapped communities move forward to address barriers and enhance supports they have identified through the mapping process.
Please RSVP (if possible) by e-mail or call Margaret:

Within the next 20 years, the older population is projected to be twice as large as in 2000, growing from 35 million to 71.5 million and representing over 20 percent of the total U.S. population. Even more, the concept of ‘aging in place’ is a top priority for older people. The question is - are our communities prepared? engAGE in Community is an initiative to create ‘Age Friendly’ Clackamas County, a county comprised of communities that are engaged in creating livable ‘age-friendly’ places for people of all ages. Age-friendly community places support people’s choices that enhance their health and well-being, and allow participation in all aspects of community life.

What can we do? We can become engaged! The engAGE in Community partners, Clackamas County Social Services, OSU Extension, and AARP Oregon, want to help. engAGE in Community is partnering with local people in local communities to determine what supports people need and want in order to live and age healthfully, actively and successfully in their place of choice. The opportunity is ours – come talk with Dr. Deborah John, OSU Extension faculty, and learn more about engAGE in Community – N. Clackamas. Come learn what we can do to begin today to support the age-friendliness of our community now and tomorrow!
