Adult Protective Services
For information or to file a complaint, call DHS - SPD Office in Milwaukie, (971) 673-6655, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Complaints can be filed on a 24-hour basis using voicemail.
Adult Protective Services provides protection from harm, neglect, abuse, or exploitation for persons aged 65 years and older, as well as persons with disabilities aged 18 years and older.
When an abuse complaint is received, Protective Services starts an investigation, including a thorough assessment of the client and the situation. Based on the results of the investigation/assessment, appropriate action may be taken against a person or facility. The client may be given referrals to other services. The staff also provides assistance in developing resources or finding alternative placement. If necessary, petitions may be filed with the court for guardianship, conservatorship, or a civil commitment.
Anyone having concerns about the health, safety, or financial status of an elderly or disabled adult (in the community or in a care facility) should call us at the number below. Complaints may be made anonymously and all information is strictly confidential.
If a complaint is of an emergency nature and is occurring on the weekend or after 5:00 p.m. on a weekday, call the local police.
