Concealed Handgun Licenses
Two of our Civil staffers handle the application process and background checks required before the Sheriff can issue Concealed Handgun Licenses (CHLs) to eligible Clackamas County citizens.
The CHL Unit is located in the Public Safety Training Center (12700 SE 82nd Ave., Clackamas, OR 97015). The CHL office is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
CHL applicants can drop by the office to pick up information -- but must make prior appointments to have licenses processed. You can schedule an appointment by calling (503) 794-8059.
Appointments are available Monday-Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
You can obtain an Application for a License To Carry A Concealed Handgun from one of our offices, or you can download it here. Read carefully through the instructions and follow them exactly. Make sure you meet the requirements, and remember to schedule an appointment. Have your application ready when you come in for your appointment.
Questions about Concealed Handgun Licenses can also be e-mailed to chl@co.clackamas.or.us.
Please note the expiration date on your Concealed Handgun License -- and make a renewal appointment two months prior to the expiration. You do not need to bring an application form with you for a renewal.
Change of Address for Concealed Handgun Licenses:
The law requires a concealed handgun license holder to notify the sheriff of their county of residence if they change their primary residence.
If a person has moved to (or within) Clackamas County, they must contact the CHL desk (503-794-8059) to make an appointment to come in to the Public Safety Training Center. For a fee of $15.00, a license will be issued with the person's current (Clackamas County) address on it. The license will expire on the same date as the original license. The person must provide proof of their address by showing an ODL or other identification with the new address on it.
