Marriage Licenses
Clackamas County issues marriage licenses at the Recorder's Office, 2051 Kaen Rd., 2nd floor, Oregon City, Oregon 97045.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; persons 17 years of age may obtain a marriage license with a signed consent form from either parent or a guardian. Parent or guardian must be present when the license is purchased.
To obtain a Marriage License, an official marriage license application must be completed and signed by the bride and groom. An application may be obtained in person or by mail. To order an application, call (503) 655-8659 and leave your name and address. An application and instruction sheet will be mailed to you.
Once you have completely filled out and signed the Official Application, it must be returned to our office in person. The fee for the license is $60.00, payable in cash, certified check or money order. No Personal checks are accepted.
After the application is issued, there is a three day waiting period before the license may be used. The forms requesting a waiver of the waiting period are available in the Recorder's Office. Both parties need to be present when requesting a waiver.
Once the license becomes effective, the couple has 60 days to have the ceremony performed anywhere in Oregon. This period is not extendable; if the 60-day limit is exceeded, a new license must be purchased. No blood tests or physicals are required.
The commemorative Marriage Certificate given to you at the time your license is issued and completed by the official performing the marriage is not accepted as official proof of your marriage. The official record is the marriage license. A certified copy of the official license will be required for proof of marriage. You may obtain a certified copy of the official record through the office of the Clackamas County Clerk Recording Division or through the Oregon Center for Health Statistics.
Certified Copies will be available after the marriage has been
performed and the license has been returned to our office for recording.
Requests must be in writing or in person. Written requests should
include the names of the bride and the groom as they appear on the license,
the date of the wedding, the name and address to where the copy is to
be returned. Copy fees must be submitted with the request. The fee
will be $7.75 for the first page plus .25c for each additional page.
Additional copies, per request, will be charged $4.00 for the first page
plus .25c for each additional page. Make the check payable to Clackamas
County Clerk.
Should you have any questions, please call the Recorder's Office at: (503) 655-8551. To help prepare for filling out the application, you may download a Marriage License Worksheet. Please note, this worksheet is not the application, but a list of all the pertinent information you will need. When you come into the office, you will need to copy the information onto the actual application form. You will also need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this document. Download it here.
