Cable Communications
Established in 1995, Cable Communications Division has two primary objectives:
- Serve the public interest promoting Clackamas County as a community, making government more accessible and understandable by offering information about county services, programs, activities, community life, history of the region and coverage of public meetings; and
- Monitor customer service standards for cable television operations in the unincorporated area of the County. To the extent allowed by the federal law, these customer services include resolution of complaints between subscribers and cable operators; review of certain cable rate changes; and approval of franchise renewals and transfers whenever a cable company serving the unincorporated areas of the County meets acceptable standards. (Individual cities within the county regulate customer service for the cable companies operating within their boundaries.)
The Clackamas County Government Channel is filled with documentaries, meetings, workshops, public service announcements, and original-County-produced programming. The channel is carried by most cable systems in the county. It has produced over 1,300 programs and won numerous national and international television production awards. CCGC went on the air in 1996, available to approximately 20,000 subscribers only four hours per day. Today, through the use of County facilities and franchise negotiations, the channel operates 24/7, available to 99% (approximately 41,000) of the cable subscribers in unincorporated Clackamas County. Another 32,000 cable subscribers receive the Channel in eight incorporated cities as a courtesy of the cities. Tapes of the weekly Board of County Commissioner's meetings are now carried to over 200,000 homes in Clackamas County and the surrounding Metropolitan area.
By contractual arrangement with Willamette Falls Television, citizens from the unincorporated area of Clackamas County have the opportunity to produce their own programs for air on local public access television. Willamette Falls Television is located at 707 Main Street, Oregon City.
