IN COURT WITHOUT A LAWYER?

Clackamas Co. Family Court Services Offers a Family Law Education Program

GET LEGAL INFO FOR YOUR DIVORCE OR FAMILY LAW MATTER (including help with completing court papers)

WHAT:

Family Court Services introduces a voluntary 2-hour education program under ORS 3.425 (3). Get basic information about Oregon family law and legal procedures; learn about the options for resolving your disputes through litigation, mediation, and other dispute resolution alternatives, the role of attorneys in mediation, and court procedures and time requirements.  Learn basic information about shared parenting plans, division of property, and spousal and child support. Ask general questions about your situation, and get information on how to move forward to a better resolution for your whole family.

WHY:

Targeted toward parties going through divorce (dissolution), legal separation, or a custody matter who are not represented by attorneys, this class aims to help make the family court process more understandable and accessible.  With more information, families can make better, more informed decisions about how they want to handle their dissolution or other family law matter, especially as it impacts their children.  Family Court Services does not provide legal representation; this class is not a substitute for more complete representation by an attorney.

COST:

$35.  Registration and payment required in advance.

WHEN:

One of the following Thursday evenings, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.:

  • February 18, 2010
  • March 11, 2010
  • April 8, 2010

This class will be offered in Spanish through April, 2010 – but the request for the class in Spanish must be made three (3) business days prior to the class date.
