As the dogs in our care are stray or homeless, we know very little about their background or true temperament. The information provided is based on our observations of their behavior while in the shelter. We cannot assure you that a particular dog will always exhibit appropriate behaviors with children, cats or other dogs, as these behaviors can evolve over time and are often not exhibited in a shelter environment.

We encourage you to research the breed of dog, in which you are interested, as every breed has certain characteristics and behaviors that should be acceptable and expected. Please be sure the breed in which you are interested, will fit in with your lifestyle and family.

NOTE ON CATS: Clackamas County Dog Services does not have facilities for sheltering of cats; therefore we do not accept cats. Upon occasion, cats come to our care through abandonment and are cared for at the shelter until cat sheltering facilities can be found. If you are interested in knowing if there are any cats in our care, at this time, please call our Shelter at (503) 722-6519.
