Dogs can not be placed on hold without a completed application and can not be placed on hold via email or over the internet. To place a hold on a dog, please visit us at the shelter.

Waiting Period:
There is a minimum 24 hour waiting period between applying for adoption and picking up your new pet

Spay/Neuter Requirement:
We require that all dogs adopted from us be spayed or neutered

Adoption Fees:

Adoption application fee: $10 (applied to adoption fee if you adopt from Dog Services within six months)

Basic adoption fees are as follows:

For a dog six years of age or older: $35
For a dog under six years of age:
$55

Additional adoption fees will be added based on the following criteria:

For a dog that arrived at the shelter
fertile and is spayed or neutered
while in the care of Dog Services:
$60
For a dog adopted under the
sterilization contract*:
$60 [refundable*]
For a dog that received a rabies
vaccination while in the shelter’s care:
$15

*Sterilization contract: Adopters that adopt a fertile animal will be given information on how they can obtain a low-cost spay/neuter procedure for that dog. If they return to the shelter within 30 days with a receipt for that procedure on their adopted pet, CCDS will arrange to have a refund check of $60 mailed to their home. (Some veterinarians will deduct $60 from the cost of their spay/neuter invoice so that families do not need to bring the receipt to us. If your vet deducts $60 from the spay/neuter bill you paid, no additional refund will be provided by Dog Services.)

Included with the cost of adoption, all adopting families receive:

  • A free Bordatella vaccination for their pet (as well as other vaccinations when appropriate and available)
  • A list of veterinarians who offer an initial free health screening
  • A goodie bag filled with product samples
  • Dollar-off coupons for food and pet-related services at local establishments
  • Helpful information and literature on feeding, training and care of their new family member

NOTE: If owners live outside of Clackamas County or within city limits of the City of Gladstone, Lake Oswego, West Linn or Happy Valley, they will have to license their dog in their area. Check with your city or county about their licensing requirements. CCDS insists that all dogs leaving our shelter and reside within our licensing area, must be licensed prior to leaving the shelter.

Cats: Our shelter does not have the facilities to accept large numbers of cats. We do occasionally have cats available for adoption when local cat rescue facilities are full.

The fees associated with cat adoptions are the same as dogs, based on spay/neuter status. Fees include the adoption fee, a spay/neuter fee or deposit (if appropriate) and a supplies charge, to permit us to pay for the unique supplies needed by cats.

Return Policy: The adopters have 30 days in which to return the dog to the shelter for an exchange should the newly adopted dog not work out for the family.

Although the listed dogs were available when the page was last updated, some may no longer be available as they may have been claimed by their owner or adopted.
