American Recovery Act provides facility for Milwaukie

The North Clackamas County Chamber joined in the celebration of cutting a ribbon for the opening of the TriMet Park & Ride on the former site of the Southgate Movie Theater on Millport Street and Main.

Comments, led by Congressman Earl Blumenauer, noted this project had created jobs for unemployed, and will be a pivotal point for transit in the Milwaukie area.

Using federal stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, ARRA) the park and ride will offer greater access to transit options both now and in the future as the light rail is developed in the area.

Chamber CEO, Wilda Parks, on hand for the event, said this is one more piece of the multi-modal opportunities in the area. Joining Blumenauer for the ribbon cutting were Fred Hansen, Executive director, TriMet; Jeremy Ferguson, Mayor City of Milwaukie; Lynn Peterson, Chair, Clackamas County commission; and Jason Tell, Region 1 Manager, ODOT.
